More Evidence of Undocumented Workers at VW Site

3/30/2010

VW Subcontractors are using undocumented Eastern European workers on the VW Plant site at Enterprise South.

While Tennessee's unemployment rate continues to hover around the 12% mark, increasing evidence shows that many of the workers on the VW site are undocumented foreign workers.

Volunteers for Local Hire has learned that a specific portion of the work at the Enterprise South location has been delayed due to the fact that a group of workers from Slovenia could not produce the proper work visas.  In addition, German workers on the site have been cited by OSHA for not having proper training and certification for various tasks.

This follows on the heels of previouisly reported incidents; such as Volkswagen setting aside two days a week for "non-English speaking employee orientation;" and the discovery of workers on the job from countries such as Venezuela, Nicaragua, Honduras, Mexico, Guatemala, and Poland.
